Community Outreach

Winter Center partners with local and regional agencies to offer outreach programing and coordination.  Some examples include seasonal projects where youth and seniors create, serve and share.

At Valentines, hot cocoa is made by local youth and delivered to the doors of seniors (or rooms at nursing facilities).  In the summer, participants gather flowers from the community and deliver them to dinning tables at nursing facilities. Conversation and smiles come with the flowers.

At Thanksgiving, volunteers peel, cut, spice and mash apples and pumpkins from Pome On the Range Orchard. The resulting pies arrive ready for Thanksgiving at the homes of seniors and homebound. Many seniors enjoy bringing a homemade pie to their family gathering (as they no longer cook themselves); others dig right into the sweet gift.

Other examples include coordination of enrichment programing at local organizations, development of tenant associations, mediation for groups and individuals, provision of empowerment and mentoring programing and service opportunities.
